Howrah Bridge is a scantling bridge constructed under the supervision of British government in 1943 above an overwhelming arm of Hooghly River. Before an inception of Howrah Bridge, the Pontoon bridge was operating as main road to connect the roads of Howrah and Kolkata. It was back in June 1965 the bridge was renamed after one of the great pioneer, scholar and poet of West Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore. The bridge is one of the two great constructions that changed the history and transport and communication of West Bengal.
