Mahatma Gandhi memorial
built to commemorate the immersion of Gandhi’s ashes at Kanyakumari, this memorial is one of a kind. The urn which held Gandhi’s ashes is said to have been kept here before the immersion so that people could pay their last respects to him. The memorial stands an astounding 79 feet high which coincides with his age during the time of his death. The monument houses things pertaining to Gandhi’s life like letters, documents, piece of the cloth in which he was shot dead etc. The operating hours of this memorial is from 7 am to 7 pm.
with a total height of 133 feet and the statue being 95 feet, this colossal structure dedicated to the poet Thiruvalluvar is a grand sight to see. The statue has been constructed with reference to the 38 chapters of the book called Aram which is represented by the 38 feet pedestal. One should not miss out on seeing this grand marvel of architecture when at Kanyakumari.
Vivekananda Rock memorial
also known as Indira Point, this rock memorial is located offshore and can be accessed only by a ferry. As the name suggests, the memorial was constructed in the honor of Swami Vivekananda who had visited Kanyakumari. The memorial consists of two parts namely, the Vivekananda Mandapam and Shripada Mandapam. The memorial is based on a rocky island and its visiting hours are between 8 am to 4 pm.
