Anakkayam is a small village that is located in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The village has a lake, which has the same name as the village and is considered to be one of the most scenic lakes to be found in the district of Thrissur. According to the legends, the village derives its name from a herd of elephants. It is believed that once when a group of elephants came to drink water from the lake, one of the elephant fell into the lake. Hence, the place has been named as Anakkayam, which refers to as elephant cleft.
